1660 King James Bible by John Field in Cambridge

For your consideration here is this exquisite early English Restoration era King James Bible printed the same year King Charles 2nd ascended the throne . Herbert  #668 but without the engravings as called for. The binding is older black calf over thick, heavy wooden boards with new spine labels. The joints are in good condition holding the covers as they should. The extremities and covers are rubbed and bumped. It has been recently cleaned, treated with an archival leather preservative and buffed requiring no further attention. 18’’ tall x 12” wide x 5” thick,  25 pounds.

FRONTISPIECE, 1 page, ornate engraving of the royal coat of arms by W. Hollar, inscribed “Diev Et Mon Droit”, supplied in fine facsimile on sympathetic cotton linen paper, Historic !, COMPLETE.

GENERAL TITLE PAGE, 1 page, an amazing architectural full page engraving designed by Diepenbeck and engraved by Lombart, featuring King Solomon on his throne flanked by a dozen lions, King David playing his harp, Moses holding his tablets and Aaron with his incense. Fore edge is trimmed tight to the image, Verso is blank and clean, Just Beautiful ! COMPLETE.

THE TRANSLATORS TO THE READER, 13 pages, features a beautiful floriated woodcut initial, no loose, missing, torn or ripped pages, paper is clean and crisp with browning,  strong corners, straight edges and clean gutters, wide untrimmed margins all around, very minor soiling and staining, Good+, COMPLETE.
